Retirement Odyssey - Part 2

This morning we drove along the shores of the Bay of Corinth for a few hours, seeing thousand of ancient olive trees on the slopes of the mountains that rise quickly from the sea. We then crossed the strait dividing the Bays of Corinth and Patra on a 2 km bridge built in 2004

We headed into the mountains where the scenery was beautiful. We took a traction railroad from Diakofto through a mountain gorge, finishing at the town of Kalavryta. From there we got back on the bus and drove to Planitero, "in the middle of nowhere" as Ioanna, our Rick Steves guide described it. Our purpose for being there was to have a delicious fresh trout lunch at a taverna associated with a fish farm. Everything we had was tasty, but my favorite was the walnut spice cake for dessert.

Back on the bus, we continued our drive through the mountains to the little hill town of Lagadia. We strolled through the whole town and still had plenty of time to rest and read before dinner in the hotel restaurant, a lovely roast lamb dinner!
