Retirement Odyssey - Part 2

Got up early so we could be the first into the laundromat across the street. Good thing we did as it was a very busy place this morning! Suspect this will be our last trip to the laundromat over the remainder of our trip with the Rick Steves group.

Athens was very busy and lively in our part of the city, just south of the Acropolis, this morning as they were having a Race For the Cure event. We saw it from a distance as we walked through the National Gardens. They're not so much gardens as they are a forest preserve with lots of paths to follow and a few play grounds for kids.

Exited the gardens northeast corner to visit the Benaki Museum, housed in a beautiful early 19th century mansion. It's a private collection that includes extensive examples of objects created from 7000- 500 BC. The pottery was beautiful. We were most impressed by the exquisite gold jewelry produced long before the days of magnifiers and micro tools!

Passed the president's residence on the way home and snapped a photo of the traditionally attired security guard.

Back to The Balcony for another fine dinner. We suspect that some of those in attendance were members of the Rick Steves tour that began yesterday. We will have to change hotels tomorrow morning to be in place for the start of our tour at 6:00 PM tomorrow night.
