Christmas Holiday

Today was the day for exploring through the streets of Rome. As it is very awkward to get anywhere compared to Paris or London, we took a taxi to Piazza Venezia and then started walking - had to stop for gelato of course.

Our taxi driver had mentioned that it was a public holiday for Italy - Buon Befana! Befana is a witch that delivers gifts to children in stockings unless you have been bad - coal for you! Sounds familiar. So EVERYONE was out today celebrating.

Despite the heaving crowds, we did what we could and saw the Trevi fountain, Plazza Colonnade, Palazzo Montecitorio, the Pantheon (the world’s largest unreinforced concrete dome - you bet Craig found out all about ancient Roman concrete), the church of St Ignazio di Loyola with it’s forced perspective painted ceiling, Piazza Navona then crossed Ponte Umberto towards Castel Sant’ Angelo then back across Ponte Sant’ Angelo. By then it was getting dark and we were getting hungry. Walked back towards the Piazza Venezia to find some dinner and then taxi home.
