Happy roman Birthday Craig! We celebrated today by dragging him around St Peter’s Basilica. Don’t worry, we gave him caffeine and cake first. We joined the queue about midday and we’re finally walking around the top of the dome by half past two! We did cheat a little and take the elevator up halfway but still had 300 odd stairs to climb and my goodness, that stairwell got very narrow and sloping! But what an impressive view from the top!

Made our way back down and through the church. We were starving by then so had a late Russell lunch at a tiny pasta restaurant around the corner. So delicious and just what we needed.

We then walked around towards the Vatican Museum to find out that the Sistine Chapel had closed early for the day and wouldn’t be open until Monday. So bad luck there. We’ll have to come back!
