Christmas Holiday

It’s hard to believe but our holiday is over! We managed to squeeze all our treasures into our bags and take a very early taxi to the airport to start the mammoth journey home. Three planes and about 27 hours of flying awaits us (not to mention the layovers).

This holiday has been epic. It all started years ago when we heard about some friends who had taken their kids to Lapland for Christmas. In our naivety we thought that sounded awesome! Covid put a spanner in the works, but several lockdowns later, we were free to start building a trip around four days in Finland! Our plans grew and grew.

We were optimistic and slightly crazy but we managed to pull off a trip of a lifetime. We’ve seen major cities and landmarks, travelled to England, Finland, France, Switzerland and Italy (filling out the recent countries you’ve been in on the airport arrival card x 4 was fun). The weather has been cold but amazing. We’ve seen snow in the streets of London, snow up to our knees in Lapland and snow on the incredible alps of the Albula pass. We’ve seen some of the great works of art at MoMA in New York, in the Louvre of Paris and in the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence. We’ve been awestruck by the views from the Empire State Building, Tower Bridge, the Eiffel Tower and the dome of St Peter’s Basillica. And the boys have watched nearly every episode of The Office!

Through (mostly) meticulous planning and a bit of luck, we’ve had an incredible time. The boys have promised to take us on holiday when they’re rich - we’ll hold them to that promise or at least encourage them to perhaps take their own family one day. The gift of travel is like nothing else.

On to planning the next trip… Alex suggested Africa!
We’ll see.
