My diary

Dear diary,
Yesterday we arrived in Spain. We took a plane here and we are going to stay for three more days before we go somewhere else in Spain. Our hotel is amazing! It is kind of like a big cabin. It is all made out of wood and there is a fire place. It is really cozy. It is located close to the sea but it is in the mountains. We have already gone swimming in the sea. We are so glad that it is warm enough to do that. There is a little path next to our hotel that leads down to a small stream. There are small waterfalls and big rocks there. We climbed around there a couple hours ago. We saw some paw prints and wondered if they belonged to a dog or maybe a different animal. Then we saw a bone in the sand. That kind of scared us. We thought that maybe a fox had eaten something there. Or it was the bone of a dead fox. Even though it kind of scared us, we kept walking further and further away from our apartment. Then suddenly we heard a howl. We looked around but we saw nothing. We started to run back towards our apartment. I picked up some sticks and handed one to each of my brothers in case we needed to defend ourselves. I was starting to regret that we hadn't asked one of the parents to come with us. I didn't know if foxes or wolves were dangerous or not. I saw something red. I stood still as I realized what it was. A fox. I ran backwards and hit into my brothers. They were asking me what was wrong. I pointed to the fox. It was laying down so I made some noise to see if it was asleep or dead. It didn't move. I threw a rock at it. It still didn't move. I sighed with relief and so did my brothers. We were all really shocked. We had never seen a fox out in the wild before. Maybe in the zoo but never out in the open. I realized that if there was one fox there might be more. We started to run faster then we have ever run before. We kept on running for a long time until I remembered that I should be looking for the way where the path leads up to our apartment instead of just following the stream. I started to run a bit slower. It was getting dark. We kept looking for a long time. We decided to turn back because we had probably past it. We finally found it and that was only because my brother tripped and I had to help him up. He had fallen close to the path and so when I was helping him up I saw it. When we got back to the apartment my parents were there waiting anxiously for us. We were glad to be home.
