Today we headed off to Croatia for a couple of days with Mike and Jo.
An ugly start when our Uber picked us up at 4-00am for our 6-30 flight to Dubrovnik. Travel went well and we picked up a car from the airport and met up with Niko and Antoni, our AirBnB hosts.
The place we are staying in is amazing. We are looking out over the Old Town of Dubrovnik. Absolutely stunning view. After settling in we headed down the steps to the old town.

Dubrovnik carries the name the Pearl of the Adriatic which is well deserved. Based origionally on merchants, the salt trade and shipbuilding it was also known as being free from all the various powers who tried to invade. They built a stunning walled city to protect themselves. This all happened in the 15th and 16th centuries but was upset by a major earthquake in 1667.
The town was also caught up in the civil war when Croatia separated from Yugoslavia in 1991. You can still see the effects of the war on some of the buildings.
Started with a great lunch at a little cafe where we took on the local fish. We then started to explore the little lanes and alleys of the city. Next was the walk around the city walls. This might sound simple but these walls are massive. We spent 2 or 3 hours making our way up and down the wall steps. The views are outstanding both outside and
inside the wall. A rest stop for a quiet beer half way around was well needed.
It was about 6pm when we finished and did some targeted shopping for dinner and then took on the steps up to our apartment. Given the early start we were all stuffed and an early bed called.
A fantastic day in a stunning place. Dubrovnik gets a big tick from us.
