Today saw another gentle start. After a late breakfast we headed for the local museum. This visit was part of our prize pack and we spent an enjoyable three hours exploring the museum which is quite new and had a really good group of galleries telling the story of local people and then the resource rushes of gold, timber, oil and now tourists.
It is interesting how I now look at museums and work out how they are telling their story and then compare that back to what we are doing at Otago Museum. Anchorage uses some innovative ways of capturing your interest and it was working as I watched some young school kids getting right into it.
Lunch was at the museum and couldn’t believe it when the first thing on the menu was Brussel Sprouts - ordering made easy.

It has been another beautiful, if
brisk, day so after the museum we decided we need to do some logistics shopping and set off in search of a Walgreens. Between google maps and that typical kiwi lack of understanding how things are done, we walked about 3km on highways and snow/ice covered paths to successfully find our target.
For the return trip we decided on the brave new world and ordered our first Uber. Worked a treat, John our driver was great and the return trip was achieved with significantly less stress!
After our photo trek trip last night our first visit was to a camera shop to acquire a tripod for the Aurora chasing coming up. After a poke around the main shopping area we returned to the hotel for a rest. Dinner was at a local Japanese restaurant where all the menu has been built around local foods – my bear bait sushi was unique and
outstanding. The rest of the evening spent packing for the train early tomorrow.
Our visit to Anchorage has been really enjoyable. The people are friendly and have gone out of their way to help us. We would come back here – probably in summer to see the contrasts but recommend a visit here in the winter. It has been fun.
