With everybody here today we got out for our first look at London proper. After a pretty good nights sleep our first stop was the Clink Museum which is the sight of the original prison in the area and obviously gives its name to “the Clink”.
Fascinating place which showed just how harsh conditions were in the day (1144-1780). Lots of stories of the individuals who had been through the place over the years from Kings to prostitutes.
There was also a lot of detail on the torture methods used and they had a large number of the original devices on display. Pretty clear that most people were thrown into the prison because of their religious convictions based on who was currently in power. Guess

not much has changed today.
The day turned into a game of what sort of transport would we try next. We had started with walking and the underground. Following the Clink Museum we jumped back on the tube and headed to Royal Victoria over the river which required a transfer to the DLR.
Once there we took the Emirates gondolas over the river to the O2. Just as we arrived at the gondola a storm came through and because of the high winds everything stopped. Eventually we got under way and climbed high over the river. The remainder of the winds made it quite entertaining.
The cable car dropped us in North Greenwich at the O2. Had a good poke about there with lunch and a bit of a break.
Next we found a bus and headed to Greenwich proper where we climbed up to the observatory and the meridian line. Our tour around here was really interesting and just about understand how it all works now. Standard tourist photo on both sides of the line taken!
Back down the hill we found coffee and then jumped on a ferry down the Thames which bought us back to Embankment. From there back on the underground and a short walk
home. Probably a bike was the only thing we didn’t tackle today.
Mike came round for tea and plans for the next few days hatched. Going to be a busy couple of weeks. Hopefully the weather will sort itself out.
