Our Adventures in France

It was sad to leave our little River cottage but after checking the car for kittens, we headed out on a cold clear morning toward our next major stop, Sarlat-la-Caneda.

On our journey we passed through the small village of Lacelle. It made us think of Jetty as Lacelle was his Pedigree name. We wondered if his family did actually come from this tiny village and I took photos through the car windows as we passed through.

We had a quick stop in small village of Treignac, a beautiful medieval village on the Vezere River and lunch in the cliff top village of Uzurch. The architecture of Uzerche was amazing and so were the views.

Our drive to Sarlat was a relaxing one. We met our hosts, Paula and Barry, in a car park on the outskirts of town. They were so lovely. We talked with them for a couple of hours. Maybe because it was the first long interaction we have had with English speaking people, other than each other, for over 2 weeks. Anyway, we then followed them to a free car park 450 metres from our apartment. As we walked from the car through the small cobbled ally ways you could not wipe the smiles from our faces. The old medieval town of Sarlat was just amazing and our apartment was in the very centre.

This Apartment in Sarlat is the one we have been looking forward to the most. (Apart from Paris of course) "Le Grenier" was a one bedroom, oak beamed attic apartment overlooking medieval Sarlat. It is at the very top of a stone spiral staircase, 75 stairs up to the 4th floor of a 15th century building. Considering the apartment is in the very centre of the old town, it is very spacious and very quiet.

"Le Grenier" overlooks a restaurant, is above an ice cream shop, there is a chocolate shop across the alleyway, a Boulangerie and small grocery store in the street behind us and a view of the rooftops of Sarlat out our lounge room window. Actually we are surrounded by restaurants and touristy shops, most of them selling the region delicacy, duck and every portion or product you can make from duck. It is very touristy. A large number of tour groups are led through the town, all hours of the day and night. But it is much more incredible than we could ever have imagined.
