Overall Inauguration

Mud, sweat, and alcohol!! I have never gotten so dirty in my life! I was covered in mud, ketchup mustard, flour, and charcoal. And the best part was that I did not care. The overall made me feel invincible. It was not the warmest of days but once the team challenges started and the alcohol was distributed, I got warm from inside. The gathering of so many people made me realise how many I knew and faces I recognized which was a very comforting feeling to have with only having been a month in Sweden.

After the initiation, you are only allowed to wash your studentoverall (student overall/boilersuit) once and then never again. As the overall will be your outfit for upcoming parties at the Kårallen (the campus student house) you would want to make it unique. Many sew their names or nicknames on their right overall leg. Putting on patches lets people know what parties you have been at and what associations

you are part of. If you have a patch and you did not end up going to the party, no worries!! You are still allowed to sew it on upside down.

The event itself took place on one of the big football fields in Ryd. The mud for the event was actually brought in big white buckets. To not ruin the grass huge plastic groundsheets were spread out where the activities would take place. On top, the mood was then distributed. Each overall inauguration is typically organized at the start of your bachelors or master program by your study association. In our case, it was ESN (Erasmus Student Network).
