With phone torches and clip-on bicycle lights, we made our way through the dense forest. The speed at which the sun had set took us by surprise. At 6:00 it was almost pitch dark. We had to rather quickly abandon our plans to walk to the end of the island to see the castle. To get the last bit of sunlight to illuminate our way we decided to venture off the main path and follow a horse-riding track to get closer to the coast where the forest cleared up a bit. Here it was still possible to get a small glimpse of the sky. The big dock lights became visible close to the end of our walk indicated we were almost at the harbour. As we rode the ferry back the pitch-black sea and the dark sky made it seem as if we were floating in the vast emptiness. Only the sound of water, the fresh wind, and the growing twinkling lights of town Gränna indicated that we were still on lake Vatten.
Really do not underestimate the time it takes for the sun to set in winter. The days only get shorter a couple of minutes per day but after a week this already makes quite a difference. To take the ferry, typically coloured in yellow, costs you around 5 euro as a

Really do not underestimate the time it takes for the sun to set in winter. The days only get shorter a couple of minutes per day but after a week this already makes quite a difference. To take the ferry, typically coloured in yellow, costs you around 5 euro as a
passenger. After asking if there was a student discount, which there wasn’t unfortunately, the ticket person allowed on without having to pay anything. How kind.
Short dialog of when the ferry comes:
Ursäkta, när kommer färjan?
Sorry, when does the ferry come?
Det kommer varje halvtimme och efter tjugo över fem varje timme.
It comes every half an hour and after twenty past five every hour.
Vad är klockan nu?
What time is it now?
Kvart över fem.
Fifteen past five.
Tack.
Thanks.
