29/7 Sancerre to Beaune
I’ll be brief again ... too busy and internet ... getting pics uploaded takes forever ... I’ll tell a little story and will have to add to it later. These were in between days really ...

We left Sancerre and headed for Beaune. A tiring day, a bit far, and then a cranky German woman at the campground reception... and it was pretty hot ... anyway we settled in and I made a tapas dinner.

30/7. Beaune to Besançon
We headed out and ... met a nice young woman, Katherine: interesting and interested- environmentally and politically aware. Had a good day and took her to Besançon with us. She was on her way to Zurich to see friends.
We found the campsite beside the river, met Marc and Kris from Belgium and share champagne and wine and chatted the night away.

31/7. Besançon and to Saurte.
We tried to sort out our Orange account for internet. Aarrrggghhh. Anyway we had a look downtown and then headed out. Our Navman- a woman - took us out of town and then we turned a corner: up this ever decreasing windy narrow road: ah, no ... We had to go into Besançon and get on the tollway. It was nice anyway, and up over the mountains, with some great views.

The campsite ... well, not quite what we expected but it would do. Next to a cement plant. Just a night.

1/8. Saurte to Chamonix.
Not a good start to the day, but the best can happen: a flat tyre! The long and short of it: the local ‘boys’ In the camp came and took it off (had a nail in it), one of them owned a mechanic shop so - on Swiss National Day!! - took it to his shop, repaired it and then they put it back. So later than we planned we took off. How lovely they were.

Tollways today, the only way to go. And so the mountains really started, and snow capped even though summer. Amazing sites.

And we arrived at Janifer and Geoffrey’s, friends from Sydney who have been there - just outside Chamonix - for 17 years.
