Zanna and James 2018

4/8. Chamonix to Villaneuve (near Montreux)

First stop to Grand Frais - a big supermarket of all fresh food, nothing else, oh well some nuts etc. Stocked up on some favourites and then off, into Switzerland. A non event, except having to buy a vignette for the CC windscreen. 35 Swiss Francs to use the motorways for a year. Not sure how it works, but apparently it does.

A beautiful trip today, much of it along the lake, to a nice campsite alongside the lake. We had a great time here. Not much in the town itself, but a boat trip into Montreux - home of the famous jazz festival- and a walk around, and then on a boat that traversed the lake going to various stops. We ate a very nice meal, drank some nice wine and saw lots of places. They call it the Riviera and judging on the houses and boats yes it is.

Walking back from the boat trip we lucked on a couple singing in the park - country music but good anyway.

6/8. Villaneuve to Interlaken
Skirted around Montreux then up into the mountains, then down and along this magnificent lake. Wow, sorry the images aren’t loading.
Got to the campground and it was closed for siesta ... well whatever it is they do, a lot of places close 12.30 to 2.30 or 3 pm. We wandered around, saw the grand boat that does the trips, went into town - smaller than we thought but we realised next day we had only seen part of it.

Got settled and met Clive from UK who joined us for a drink and dinner. Cutting the bread Suzanna cut her finger and then James followed suit! A good night, casual meal and good chat. Nice to meet you Clive.

Next morning up early and up on the funicular to Harden Klum - quite a vertical climb! Oh what views! Met Eugene and Zoe from Hong Kong.

And off we went on our way to a great reunion at Uetliburg.

Wow, that was a drive. Up up up a windy mountain, interspersed with tunnels - challenging, but our trusty driver James coped extremely well.
