23/8.
A mix today of motorways and back roads - it is easier to program in ‘motorways ‘ to get out of town and then revert to ‘avoid motorways ‘. The first stop of the day though was Grand Frais in Perpignan to stock up on ‘fresh’. We do tend to go a bit silly though - thank heavens the fridge works well. Beautiful meat, fruit and veg. And new oats and fruit for the muesli.
Argeles sur Mer. Another day of being uncertain about whether the campground was confirmed - all good. This place is simply huge and caters for kids - and is full of them. They play until about 9.30 pm!
A storm looked to be brewing bland once the sun’s strength had lessened, about 4 pm on this day, off to the beach: not just any beach - the MED! Only a couple of hundreds of metres away, how good.
The sand had a high content of shells and there was about 50 m until a dip of about 10m where everyone sat ... and then the sea.
Oh wow, how beautiful- cold, clear green, waves without breaking- just perfect.
The beach was long and seemed to stretch forever, with people the whole way. And ... clean.
Hard walk back over the sand, but oh how good was the experience: a special memory this one.
24/8. ASM to Olot.
Again a bit of fast and slow, through the Pyrenees and to our much awaited feast tomorrow. We had been in touch with Anna at the campsite for over a year but unfortunately she was away.
We set up and James washed his hair, taxi to town and found a delightful woman who did a great job on his hair, beard and nails. Suzanna had her nails done.
A bite to eat, a walk up to the volcano and then home.
And who arrives but two Kiwi men, from Christchurch would you believe, cycling from Prague to Barcelona- what can you say at that!? We looked after them with some NZ wine we had found (at Henri Bourgeois at Sancerre - he has a vineyard there called Clos Henri: wonderful). A bottle of Sancerre for comparison and then dinner in the restaurant.
Off they went ... later than their normal early start .. while we relaxed.
Our meal has its own chapter - you will see why!
