29/8. This definitely deserves its own chapter. We drove down the hill and found a street alongside the university where Càmping cars can park for 3.10 Euro for 24 hours. No facilities it that’s ok, a 15 minutes walk to the beach. Glad we got there early, this place fills up!
And that’s what we did. A lovely walk, coffee on the way and then wow, a pretty impressive beach and town. Lots of bathers.
We walked and walked and walked, as you do. Up and down and around and about, in and out. We had some tapas for lunch, a beer, walked more and more.
A busy tourist area of course, but I think were lucky that the kids are nearly all back at school and crowds are less. It was (another) cloudless day. Some beautiful buildings, all the fashion chains, a lovely veggie and fruit market - James bought some figs, yum.
An interesting old part of town, but there again much of the newer part has some of the same characteristics.
And we found a lovely shop with hand made and interesting things. A mime man on the waterfront looked amazing - looks like he was suspended without anything - obviously had a rod inside his clothes: must have been incredibly uncomfortable.
And the tunnel from the beach, short but with beautiful images, I thought we were in the sea.
Walked home and spied a cafe serving what looked like sardines- turned out to be anchovies it still delicious when we went back for dinner.
Oh what a lovely day. We thought about staying another day and having a swim, but it was cloudy and a little cool so we moved on ... back into France and up the Atlantic coast.
