Cross-Country 2017
We have managed to avoid the sweltering heat of summer this entire trip, save a few places at the beginning (notably, Texas and Arizona). A rare heat wave has hit the west, however, making an inferno-like atmosphere from southern California all the way up to where we are now. It was in the 90s yesterday, even at the coast, and it's supposed to be another record-breaker today. Thankfully, it will be 20 degrees cooler starting tomorrow, so back to normalcy.
I was hoping to see Mt. St. Helens or Mt. Ranier, but, alsa, they are both rather far from this park, so not this time. We will enjoy the nice setting of this park, with the usual amenities (pool, lodges, and, of course, pickleball), which gives us a chance to have a relatively restful couple of days. The Pacific Northwest has beautiful scenery, but I think we agree (as do some of the natives we've spoken to, that it probably rains too much to live here year-round. But definitely nice to visit.
