Cross-Country 2017

Been driving up, up, up along part of the northern California coast, past Eureka, on the redwood highway. Can't believe we've been in California for over a month. This place has a way of taking your time and money without you realizing, like some strange vortex. But it's been fun. This northern part has redwoods and wild coastline. Not to mention peculiar people, vagrants (Cali Cacks), in Eureka, and walking/hitch hiking along Hwy 101. Odd place. This is our last stop before Oregon, which, I think, is also strange in its own way. This is, after all, the west coast.
Met an odd old man, named Bud, at the Elk Country campground who told us his story about how his pitbull, Emilee, saved his life. Three years ago, he was "ready to check out of this world," because he was distraught over his mother's death. So he asked her to send him her heart. Three days later, he found his pitbull who has -- wait for it -- a heart-shaped spot on her back. He's been "the happiest person on the planet," ever since, he says. Then he told us about he and Emilee's Facebook page that's all about "the miracle". I looked it up, and sure enough, there it was -- Bud's smiling face with Emilee, thanking everyone for their generous donations. Gotta love it.
