Cross-Country 2017
Ever since Seattle, we've been following the path of Solar Eclipse 2017 home, though not intentionally. The diagonal route just happens to be the most direct route home for us. We've ended up in quite a few places that are in the the path of totality, from the start of the eclipse in Oregon, all the way down the line to little places like this one, Johnston City, IL, which, if not before, now definitely has a spot "on the map." And they all seem to be taking the opportunity to make a little money by having eclipse events and solarfest celebrations. The road signs have also been informative. From the practical, "Solar eclipse Aug 21. Expect delays." To the somewhat cryptic: "Aug 21 2017. It's going to get a lot darker around here." And, "Solar eclipse August 21. Be prepared." First it was 1999; then 2012. And now the eclipse. They can make t-shirts saying, "I survived all three."
