Cross-Country 2017
We're at the Wheatland Fairgrounds in a town called Ritzville, in the heart of "wheat country," in a community with a pioneer heritage. Sometimes these little off-the-beaten-path places can be surprisingly interesting in their own right. The little old lady managing the fairgrounds (she came ambling over from cutting the grass on her too small for the job mower) gave us some brochures: a historic Ritzville walking tour, and a book of western poetry and sagebrush wisdom by longtime resident, Cowboy Mac. With such titles as, "It's A Deep Damn Dark," "Stay Small in the Dark," and "Ol Nasty Mouth," the book's sure to be a scintillating read. Plus, it's got some real cowboy gold nuggets in it like, "The only things that mattered much to cowboys in the wild west were the four Gs.... guns, gin, grub and gals. Ain't much changed in the last 200 years has it?" Yeah, should be a fun read. Well, off to do a little exploring... :)
