Snow, huge flakes
I was up very early, left Tony who was in a deep sleep, and threw open the curtains in the livingroom. It is snowing, it is pretty, huge fluffy flakes, but there is a lot of it! Nothing to do but make some tea, curl up on the couch in front of the fire, and finish yesterday’s blog.
This blog will take place all day, we are resting before our long journey home. We may make it in one day, we may make it in two.

This all depends on the weather and how quickly this horse, meaning me, wants to head home to her barn.
Snow turned to rain, rain turned to fog which has lifted but not until late this afternoon. We read, watched movies and caught up on stuff! Tony is interested in The Final Four basketball championship held this year in San Antonio. Pregame programming has been on so he has been checking that out on and off this afternoon. The first game is tonight. It has been nice to chill.
Door County is lovely and it will be even more so when the trees bloom and also when they turn colour and go away. Summer would be very busy here. We have enjoyed this trip very much and have learned a lot about “middle America” and the “west south central states”. Every state has their own beauty, people have shown us their kindness for strangers, welcoming and helpful in any situation. The “accents” are different the attitudes as well. In the South everything is big, bold and out there. In the Midwest it seems smaller, calmer and more private, kind of Canadian like. The States we visited (9) are the same when it comes to farming, from big ranchers to small back yard organic growers, they are proud and everyone is proud of them, they should be. On menus everywhere, provisioners are listed with thanks. Just a few things I noticed, trivial maybe.
We have had great meals and a couple of not so great, typical of any adventure. Too much food is on the plate every time but that seems to be the case in the USA. A lot of fine food dining places were not open at lunch which disappointed Tony and I. I am not talking expensive, just not fast food. We missed that. We call it the European Way, but we are not in Europe are we? We like to linger, maybe it’s the getting older, earlier to bed thing!
Flags are everywhere in this country, as soon as you come into a city or small town you will always see a flag on the horizon, huge and unfurling in the slightest breeze. They are on barn walls, storefronts, bumpers. I like that.
Again we sat in front of the fire, repacked our bags and our thoughts turned to home.
Talk to you in the morning! Sleep well.
