This was our last day with Mike and Cathy. We drove down to the Stock Yards, where the West began, many moons ago, in the National Historic District of Fort Worth. M.L.Leddy's is the place to buy a pair of handmade cowboy boots and saddles. A part of Texas history since 1922 most days you can see them being made in the back room. The walls are lined with boots, the aisles with saddles. When Bush was President, and Charles and Camilla came to town, to the White House for dinner, their gift was Saddles, from Leddyy’s. As I write this I will try and include the appropriate news article, hopefully you can read. Country music stars, presidents, ‘‘this is where you come!
Cathy got a great pair of boots, awesome on her, but more importantly the treatment and attention she received was off the charts. Before she “checked out” if she did not know how to put them off and on, put the shoe horns in, there was no sale. She had to own it....Lessons, all good.
We ventured after that to Billy Bob’s, the largest Honkey Tonk Bar in Texas, music blaring, neon signs flaring we bellied up to the Bar for Beer and Boody Mary’s. After this we went to Tim Love’s hamburger haven and I just have to tell you Tony and I shared the best burger I have ever had. Mike was right, the BEST! And, we listened to struggling country artists belt out the tunes...sounded pretty good!
After a walk about we headed the half hour home, and enjoyed a beautiful evening full of laughter and when reminiscing, some tears. We even got an extra card game in there, in the tournament I was the loser but some how realized a win, thanks to my partner! Mike and Cathy barbecued, a delicious dinner, food was amazing but more important was the company. Blake Shelton was singing in the background and the Leafs were ahead in the hockey game, all was good.
We head out in the morning together, we are heading to Oklahoma, they are going to golf. It is always sad to say good bye, we just say “see you soon” and thank you again for everything.
