Roanoke, population 8000 is a town that forms part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Mike took us downtown where we walked the main east west road that runs through town. It is lovely and inviting. There are many varied shops and restaurants along the Pecan tree lined street. BBQ proved popular for lunch as line ups were forming outside the doors. At the bbq restaurants stacks and stacks of wood are neatly piled by the smokers, cut and ready to fuel the fires. There is also a hotel that bank robbers, Bonnie and Clyde resided in during
the 1930’s. In 2019 Roanoke will grow by 2600 plus people as “Charles Schwab Corporation” an investment company, has begun to build a $100 million, 500,000 square foot regional campus.
Trophy Club, neighbour to Roanoke with population 8026, is a northern suburb and also part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. It is Texas’ first premiere planned community, built around the only golf course designed by Ben Hogan. Hogan was an American professional golfer, considered to be one of the greatest players in the history of the game, and one of only five golfers to have won all four major championships: The Master, The Open, U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. I am learning a lot about golf in these here parts! Roanoke and Trophy Club are both about a half hour from Dallas-Fort Worth.
After a short drive we stopped at the Club for lunch where we were able to sit outside and watch the golfers from a short distance. The facility is very attractive and a hive of activity. We did our errands, grocery store, liquor store and the drug store all close by before returning home. Unfortunately we went to the drug store to get Tony a sling for his shoulder/arm, no improvement today!
When Cathy came home we all left to see their new house which will be completed, hopefully in July. Situated on the Trophy Club golf course, the drive in is stunning. A gated
community, the homes are stately, the lawns and gardens immaculate. Mike and Cathy's home is going to be amazing, lots of windows, open spaces. Four bedrooms all with baths, a den, large dining room with butlers pantry, huge kitchen and open family room. Upstairs where one of the bedrooms is located there will be a sitting/TV room. There are no basements here so three garages are necessary. They back onto green space and the golf course. I look forward to seeing it when it is finished!
We dined late, all of us were in the kitchen prepping a great chicken dish. When ingredients include bacon, wine, whipping cream, mustard, paprika, thyme, mushrooms you can't go wrong. Mike made garlic pasta for the side, a perfect combination. Tony and Mike were giving us lessons on cooking pasta, they were hysterical.
Cathy and I are partners in cards, the last leg of the Euchre tournament, we are tied. Another wonderful day.
The photos: the house, garages that are at the side and back, not visible from street, views from kitchen island and looking out to the backyard where a glass door system is being installed that will allow the room to be opened to the outside, Cathy and Mike at the front door which is stunning and the shenanigans in the kitchen!
