On this sunny and clear day we are heading home. With no deadline we are sticking to our plan, taking no Interstate highways and to remain off the beaten path. Goodbye Sturgeon Bay.
All you see on the busy highways are trucks and road kill. On our roads we saw an Owl, Bald Eagle and live, running White Tailed Deer, along with the usual fields of cows and horses. We left the early blossoms of white and pink from the Dogwood and Redbud trees and appreciated the bright yellow of Forsythia that dotted the highway and front yards of country homes. Any trucks were of the pick up variety, parked in the driveways.
It is quiet, it is early, people are getting ready for Church. It is Easter Sunday. I hope everyone had a happy Easter, our grandchildren right now are probably egg hunting. There are a lot of churches in the States and we noticed each Sunday that the parking lots are full. Today will be no exception.
We head South a bit to Green Bay, before heading north. Lake Michigan is on our right, the road curves like a snake around every bay, most of them frozen then on the straight, the sun is glistening on the open water. It is a gorgeous day!
We are listening off and on to “My Life”, by Bill Clinton and are appreciative of his story, after all he being our age, lived the history we have. He is honest, open and at times humorous, especially when he offers anecdotes of people he interacted with over the years, or the many times he did get into situations causing himself physical harm.
Clinton covers his life chronologically beginning with his early years in Hope, Arkansas, right through his political and personal life until the day he left the White House. He leaves no stone unturned. Eighty six chapters, we are at 26, we will finish this book. Thank you Holly for the recommendation. Audio books are a good idea on road trips.
The further north we go the whiter it gets. Snow begins to appear on the trees and the road though clear, is covered in salt. Apparently

everyone got a bit of snow across the Northeast yesterday.
We crossed the border at Sault Ste. Marie and there is not one car in front of us. The Customs Officer said in the most cheerful voice, “Good day! Where have you been and where are you going?” I answered and we were on our way after exchanging Happy Easter. So pleasant!
There was more snow on the American side than the Canadian side. Glad of that we carried on knowing only bad weather or bad roads would hold us back.
We were getting a bit hungry, it was well past lunch and travelling off the beaten path most places were closed. We knew that “Bopper’s” in Bruce Mines would be open. We had stopped here before on a previous trip thanks to Mary’s recommendation. It was open, the parking lot had a lot of cars mostly other travellers, but a few locals were inside enjoying a coffee and huge slices of homemade lemon cream pie. It did the trick, we were full and ready to carry on, there would be no need for supper! We were going all the way home.
Twelve hours later from our departure time this morning, I was so excited to turn off Highway 17 onto Main Street in North Bay.
