Big trip to the Rockies and back - 2017

Today is our second to last day on this trip. As such, we said goodbye to our Delawarian friends and wished them God speed and safe travels as they headed home.

That left Brian, Jana and I to keep trucking towards the Detroit/Windsor border, but first, we had some backroading to do in Illinois and Indiana. It has been a long time since I had been to the Moonshine Store - not since the year prior to Terry Hammond's passing (Terry was the founder of the Moonshine Lunch Run that I have attended in the past).

Effingham, IL to Warsaw, IN

Today is our second to last day on this trip. As such, we said goodbye to our Delawarian friends and wished them God speed and safe travels as they headed home.

That left Brian, Jana and I to keep trucking towards the Detroit/Windsor border, but first, we had some backroading to do in Illinois and Indiana. It has been a long time since I had been to the Moonshine Store - not since the year prior to Terry Hammond's passing (Terry was the founder of the Moonshine Lunch Run that I have attended in the past).

Anyway, as Terry used to say "If you don't make it to Moonshine,,, you ain't a Motorcycle Rider,,, you're just a Motorcycle Owner!!!" - so now, Brian and Jana can be counted as part of that club! We pulled up to the store fairly early - around 8 am of so - and the lady running the place fired up the burger grill when she heard the bikes pull up (her words). Ellen and Roy Lee Tuttle don't run the store any more - Roy Lee passed away and Ellen only drops by for a visit now and then, but their story lives on.

So, after crossing the border into Indiana - while at the same time crossing into Eastern Time - we dropped down to visit Wabash Valley

HD in Terre Haute ... only to find out that as of June 20 of this year it is now called Cannonball HD, which meant that I had to pick up poler chips for both the old (I had been there once before while on the Moonshine Lunch Run) and the new one!

After that, we went in search of some covered bridges. The one at Rosedale/Coxville was easy enough to find, but the McAllister bridge made for some interesting riding, to say the least. The Harleys had to withstand a few miles of dirt and gravel roads, but in the end, we all came out at Rockville unscathed.

After some more backroading, we made it to Waveland and lunch at

the Cozy Corner Family Restaurant. The weather had been great all day and it continued that way as we made our way along Hwy 47 and 31 and on to HD of Kokomo (which is nothing like the Beach Boys song, by the way).

We then cut over to Wabash and Brandt's HD and then negotiated around some road closures to bring us to our destination for the night - the Comfort Inn in Warsaw, IN. Dinner was right next door at the Ruby Tuesday.

Tomorrow, we head home :-)
