Trinidad, CO to Medicine Lodge, KS

We are now definitely on the return leg for home now. There was no real sightseeing to be done today - just putting the twisting of the throttle as we made out way east.

The morning started off cool and the roads were deserted as we left Trinidad and headed towards the Kansas border along US350 and then picking up US50 - the coast to coast highway referred to as "the loneliest road in America" - at La Junta, CO.

After fuel/rest stops in La Junta and Syracuse, KS we crossed into

the Central Time Zone and eventually made a stop for lunch at Richie's Cafe in Cimarron, KS. After lunch, we continued on to Dodge City and expected to see the OK Corral, but it was not to be found. In fact, the HD dealership in Dodge City was underwhelming to say the least.

From Dodge City, we continued on Hwy 50/400 to Pratt and hen south on 281 to reach our final destination for the day, the Copa Budget Inn in Medicine Lodge, KS... just getting in before the normal late afternoon storms rolled in.

Dinner was picked up at the Casey's General Store just down the street.

The day was really spent travelling along the Santa Fe Trail and passing massive cattle farms, tons of grain elevators and coal trains,

with some oil wells mixed in. Generally speaking the roads were straight and flat, and as we have grown accustomed to, the afternoons are hot... and with that heat, you get the high winds. But, we all managed through it all and made it here safe.

So far, LiB and I have logged 11,270 kms (just over 7,000 miles) on the trip and we have 4 more days to get home. Giddy up lil doggy! :-)
