Fletchers Holiday Diary

Today, we started the day very early with the alarm going off at 3 am. After having about a 7 hour sleep I was rearing to go at the start, but that changed later on. After we got ready, we waited outside for the taxi which didn't take long. We then drove to the Adelaide airport. Once there, we checked in and dropped our baggage off and waited for 40 min for our flight.

We then flew to Melbourne which was about a 1 hr 30 min flight. When we landed, we headed for the International Terminal and went through customs for our international flight. It was very busy and we slowly made our way through the line to the desk. Mum said it felt like being cattle being herded through cattle yards.

After finally getting through customs we took the next leg of our journey - a 14 hr flight - which was grueling. I was unable to sleep for the whole duration of this

Adelaide to San Francisco

Australia to California USA

I was unable to sleep for the whole duration of this

leg. After what seemed an eternity we landed in Los Angeles.

We went through customs and had our passports stamped with two stamps; one was an admittance stamp with the date of admittance to Los Angeles airport the other stamp was a date of which we have to leave the USA by. We then collected our luggage and made our way through security and headed for terminal three for the last leg of our journey to San Francisco.

Los Angeles was very warm and humid. The security for this last flight was more stringent. You had to walk into this booth stand with your feet on two yellow footprints and raise your arms in the air while they checked out to see if you were carrying anything on their security screens. The flight got delayed by about 40 min due to bad weather in San Francisco.

Upon arrival we took the Air Train (like a train on a dedicated track, but with rubber tyres) to the car hire centre where we hired a Chrysler Town and Country (a mini van) and drove to our apartment. We unloaded everything, and then went and had dinner at my uncle Michael's apartment, which was about 4 houses up the street. San Francisco is REALLY hilly.
