Three hour drive to the coast with beautiful vistas. Arrive about 11:30am to find the parking lot in Riomaggiore full, on to Manorola, park and take train to Vernazza. We go up hill to Pirate Cafe to eat because Talena and John recommended it. It was delicious, I had mushroom risotto and Jim had Lasagna. Back on train to Monterrosso, beautiful (do I say that enough?) seaside, swim, crowded town. Do the hike back to Vernazza, 2.5 hours, strenuous, mostly up hill, on very high mountains, amid breathtaking. In Vernazza much needed break by the water, but as always Jim sees a fisherman struggling to get his boat in the water and jumps up to help. Train to Riomaggiore, to take a quick look, then back to car at Manorola. Favorite towns Vernazza, Manorola, but very crowded and touristy. Driving home late and phone doesn't seem to charge in car, so gps stops. Luckily, I had written directions down before that and we used a map. A little stressful though to say the least. Get back at 10pm, no longer serving dinner but ask our waitress, Manurola and she brings us food to our room!
