Today we are going to visit Mount Rushmore ! Even though Chicago was a blast, we can’t wait to visit the largest historical sculpture. It’s honestly a really long drive. It’s 13 hours and 23 minutes. We filled up our tank which was $62.82. While on the road we booked out motel which is Super 8 Rapid City/Lacrosse, it’s only $29 per night. After almost 14 hours on the road we arrived at our motel. We got off to stretch and use the restroom because during the trip we tried to make less stops at possible. We checked into out motel and unpacked our bags and we also ate a meal and rested. Day 2. Sydney planned this whole day ahead of us. We’re going to be visiting Mount Rushmore and it’s exciting because we haven’t been there. Our relatives have told us stories about their personal trip so of course, we had to explore it ourselves. We headed early in the morning to see this beautiful man made sculpture. It’s located 38 minutes from our room. We packed some snacks and drove. When you first see the mountain you’ll think “it’s even prettier in person” it’s such an extraordinary piece of art. Historian Doane Robinson conceived the idea for Mount Rushmore in 1923 to promote tourism in South Dakota. It took about 14 years to carve Mount Rushmore. The carving began in 1927 and stopped in 1941. The purpose of Mount Rushmore National Memorial is to: Commemorate our national history and progress through the visages of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. The tour guy was very genuine and really made everything clear as day. After a long day in the heat it’s about time for us to head back to our motel and pack again so we can hit the road. A lot of people would get annoyed being with someone in a car for such long hours. We kept our sanity by taking naps while the other person drives. ( $1,449.66 left )
