After a few relaxing days in Belize, we headed west to explore Guatemala. One water taxi ride, and one scenic bus ride later we arrived across the border in El Remate, Guatemala. After a few relaxing days in Belize, we headed west to explore Guatemala. One water taxi ride, and one scenic bus ride later we arrived across the border in El Remate, Guatemala. El Remate is a very tranquil town by Lake Petén Itzá. After the recent months dealing with grief and overwhelming stress, I really needed a nature retreat to reconnect with nature, family and myself. El Remate was a great place to do just that.
We stayed in a small bungalow in the middle of the jungle and were sucked into the peaceful ambiance immediately. Most of our time there was spent taking in the beauty of the lush jungle surrounding us, and being mesmerized by the beautiful lake. We especially loved waking up to the sounds of the howler monkeys that sounded more like a roar. Seeing the look on Liv's face when she first heard the howler monkeys was priceless.
