Australian Adventures

I thought our first set of days off would be more eventful, but Woody and I were both missing out on camp life almost instantly. We’re back at camp now, a day early. I think the gang missed us. They said it was too quiet without Woody. He’s down at the staff tents doing what he does best; telling his funny tales and making everyone laugh. It’s quite nice not having him bug me anymore about how bored he is. The most relaxation I got when we were off was when he and Gen (Rob’s girlfriend/our roommate) went for a long snorkel and left me to an empty house. I got so much journaling and cleaning done. It was lovely.

Most of the days we spent snorkeling, fishing and, of course, drinking beer. My good friend, Helena, who had joined us for a couple days of volunteer work, is now working in town at the IGA so I got to catch up with her for a few frothies and gossip. She’s the best. It was like instant friendship when we met which I appreciated so much especially after having 2 months of no friends around, aside from Woody, Lorraine and Doug. Gen and Rob are great also. I really get on well with them.

Gen, Julia (Brayden’s girlfriend) and I went out drinking last night at the local bar, The Potshot. Julia and I didn’t really click before last night because she’s a bit hmmm… posh, perhaps. I felt very judged by her when we met, so I had a difficult time just being myself, but my liquid courage last night brought us together a bit more. I felt very out of place at the Potshot while the girls were chatting with everyone I didn't know, so Woody picked me up early which was good because I didn’t realize how drunk I had actually gotten. Hehe whoops!

When we went out snorkeling I got stung by jellyfish twice. One got caught in my bathing suit top and left red burn marks on the side of my boob and arm. They are still really red even now, three days later. Little buggers only seem to get me, no one else! I’ve really got to get a prescription mask so I can see what the hell I’m looking at in the water.

I’ve just met the owners of Sal Salis, a South African coupled named Sally and Stuart. They’re really kind. I’ve connected really well with them so far. Sally and I were going over my ideas for how to make guests’ anniversaries and birthday more special and Stuart and I bonded over liquor and my journal. Woody is up on the deck now working his charm on them. Maybe they will like us a lot and future possibilities could open up for one of their other resorts.

I’m so hungry! The cooks are trying out their new menus on us tonight so we’ll have lots of luxurious treats to try out. I see one coming out now. Chow for now!
