Springbok South Africa to Fish River Canyon Namibia, 250kms.
We leave Springbok and head north towards the Namibian border, it becomes quite rugged and there is a definite change in the scenery.
Dry and sparse with very little vegetation, the road goes on and on with some very long straight stretches, in the distance we see the rugged change in landscape and its becoming quite apparent that we are getting closer to the canyon national park.
We turn off the main road and head into Gondwana Canon Park, the
road is rough and corrugated and throws up a lot of dust.
The excitement builds as "Rodge" gets us ever closer to the lodge which we will call home for the next two nights.
We take a right turn and head towards the lodge along a very rough bush track and then there it is.....an oasis of green surrounded by massive boulders and scrub, we park close to the main lodge entrance
and exit the vehicle which is now covered in a very thick coating of dust.
Our bungalow is made of local stone, quite cute in a "Hobbit" kind of way, it is set among huge granite boulders and yet there is the greenest of lawns that surround the bungalows.
Its quite a walk to the horizon pool which is set in its own rocky outcrop overlooking the surrounding country side, beautiful.
There is nothing like sunset drinks, especially when the evenings are as glorious as they are here. The evening ritual begins with a rather steep climb up a rocky out crop via a man made path that takes you to the top of huge boulders.
The evening colours change as the sun sets over the distant horizon and the views over the lodge and the savanna are beautiful.
Sunset drinks are served by staff from a bar and there is even a fridge......glorious !
