GRAEME AND WALTER'S AFRICAN ROAD TRIP 2016

We leave the beauty of the Sossusvlei behind us and head further north to our next destination which is the west coastal town of Swakopmund.

After travelling some distance north we head west towards the Atlantic ocean and arrive at the fishing port of Walvis Bay which is home to a flock of pink flamingos that are feeding in the shallows of the shore.

We leave the beauty of the Sossusvlei behind us and head further north to our next destination which is the west coastal town of Swakopmund.

After travelling some distance north we head west towards the Atlantic ocean and arrive at the fishing port of Walvis Bay which is home to a flock of pink flamingos that are feeding in the shallows of the shore.

In 1884 South West Africa, the future Namibia, was declared a German Protectorate and by 1907 Sawkopmund had the largest

European population of any German colony in Africa.
A bustling quaint town had emerged out of the coastal desert and this is still evident today.

Refreshed and roaring to go we exit Swakopmund and head northwards along the coast to Henties Bay where we turn east and head towards our next destination Damaraland.
Along the way we see the first of many settlements of Herero and Himba tribes, it seems the preferred method of local transport is the donkey cart
