Moved on from Zaritsi Camping which wasn't the best but ok for what we needed. Had a chat with Yorgos who had just moved back to Greece from Bourton-on-the-water of all places. You wouldn't trust him as far as you could throw him but a nice bloke and we had a good laugh.
Napflio is a large town and was briefly the original capital of Greece following independence. It's a busy harbour town dominated by a large castle that overlooks the town and a small fort that stands on an island in the middle of the harbour. Like Monemvasia there is no campground nearby but there is a large parking area at the port used for motorhomes. We had visited before a few years ago so it was really a case of reacquainting ourselves with the town. We had a wander, a browse in the shops and a nice lunch and dinner. It was a little bit more run down than we remembered it but it has a nice atmosphere and some lovely old buildings and open spaces.
We had decided to pass on the near 1000 steps up to the castle and drove up there the next morning for a quick look before we moved on. We got to the top when the engine cut out and a small amount of smoke emerged from under the bonnet!! Didn't look great but a call to the hire company, a chat with an engineer via an interpreter who deemed it ok to drive and a short journey to a Fiat dealer who attached the relevant technology and declared it fit. All dealt with very efficiently the biggest challenge was locating the Fiat dealer! A couple of hours lost but all has been well since. Needless to say we decided not to drive back up to the castle and moved on.
