The Peloponnesian Divorce Tour

It was a relatively short trip to Olympia and we parked up in the town, had breakfast and then a short walk to the Ancient site. Looked like it was going to be really busy but we managed to get ahead of the tour parties so wasn't too bad. For the first time we picked out a couple of Brits and there was an abundance of Americans, you could hear them before you saw them!

The site was impressive and much bigger than I'd expected. Like Delphi there wasn't any guide books and the information on site was limited. We were grateful for the book we'd taken with us which gave us the basic information.

Again like Delphi there were few restrictions on where you could go. Of course the stadium was the main attraction and I took the obligatory picture of H in a sporting pose. Whether she was at the start of the 100 metres, putting the shot, throwing a javelin or in the egg and spoon race I've no idea and nor has she!

The spot where they light the Olympic flame was underwhelming, basically a bit of open ground where the sun's rays are captured. In exactly the same way as Delphi you couldn't understand why the opportunities to make money were being ignored. Coach loads of American and Chinese tourists who were taking photos of most things that moved and everything that didn't were surely ripe for fleecing for a few euros. Having said that the Greek attitude to ancient monuments is refreshing and we loved our wander through Olympic history.
