Europe

The weather cleared enough today for the ferries to go as far as Amalfi. The ferry terminal was a bit of a hike around the promenade and there is a surprising lack of signage for a tourist area. My Italian lessons are paying off and I can read enough to make sense of the written word. Not a clue listening to Italian. I can recognise it is Italian but they talk too fast to understand what they are saying.

On imbarco (boarding) we were greeted by a bronzed adonis wearing only budgie smugglers. He must have been in his seventies. We sat outside on the ferry and got a great view of the coast and just as we got off it started drizzling.

We visited the church first, the crypt was quite stunning with gold, glitzy frescoes. We then wandered the streets full on shops, tried the lemoncello chocolates (mmmmm) and bought another leather handbag. No - i don't have a problem!! Everything is discounted due to end of season. We only had a couple of hours here as departure was 4.30pm. The bronzed adonis was still there when we got back.

We had a bit of time went we got back to Salerno so had a wander around the foreshore which has nice wide pathways. Lots af families out walking and biking. Upon departure music started blaring out of the terminal - really loud!. Just as we were pulling away from the pier they played Andrea Bocelli Time to say Goodbye and all the locals came out to wave goodbye. A lovely touch we hadn't experienced elsewhere. I don't think they get many cruise ships, Naples is used more often.
