We were due to fly from Napier on Monday at 3.15pm and out of Auckland at 8.30pm. We had been watching AirNZ flights on Sunday due to the high winds but they were all going as normal. Monday flights were being cancelled and we had to decide by midday whether to drive to Auckland or chance flying. We could not afford to wait to be cancelled.

Rang the insurance company who were no help in proactively managing this but advised if the flight was cancelled, we just need to put a claim in and it could take up to 10 working days to process. Sod that, we were not taking the risk.

Matt had finished work early and offered to bring the car back – so a road trip it was!! Yaya to Matt for saving the day. Or perhaps making sure his parents got away so he could move into our house for two months…. Not quite the start we anticipated and short circuited the last minute preparations. The flight did go and we would have been fine but we think we made the right decision. Have to say that..!
