Living next door to MLK Eglise and being mentored and guided by the members of it has been one of the biggest blessings while studying abroad. Honestly, my first impression was mostly based on the fact that I knew little to no French, and I was terrified to interact with its members. Yet, after attending one service, I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit, and my main first impression was that this was a place with people who were excited to learn about God and lift His name high. The people were more than welcoming. Sometimes, they were shy because they knew we spoke English, and there English was not great. Yet, we felt the same way with their French! Still, they were so kind and including making me feel comforted at a home away from home. I do not quite remember what I expected. I did not know much about it going into it. I think I did expect it to be smaller, but it is a larger church! I also did not expect it to be as charismatic as it is. It is also located in a neighborhood which was interesting to me. MLK is a very diverse church. I see all kinds of people, personalities, and groups. I have been serving in the children's area for only a very short time now, but it has been so fun and educating. While it is difficult to communicate with the children, they are so sweet. It makes me more motivated to learn french so that I can ask them questions to help with their shyness. It has been such a pleasure to attend and help at MLK!
