After spending a little over a month in Paris, I am learning more about the people and their culture. While French people are still obliging and nice, they tend to be more reserved. Upon my first week, I thought they did not want to help me when I needed them, but, now, I understand that I just need to ask for help. Once I am nice to them, they are cordial back. Most of the time, I try to speak in French first as a sign of respect. I want them to know that I am trying to accommodate them instead of the other way around. Usually, they realize French is not my native tongue, and they speak in English. There have been a few times where they do not know English. In this circumstance, they either try their best or grab someone from the shop or street who does know English. The fashion in Paris is not as different as I expected. While they are a little ahead of trends from the United States, there are many styles that I recognize from home. Many people wear chunky tennis shoes, big, puffy coats, and other trends. The people who have made an impact on my experience in Paris are by far the people from MLK Eglise, the church we are connected with here. Our tutors, Jeff and Emmanuelle, and our "house mom", Gaielle, have impacted me deeply by showing me so much love and support through our whole trip. Nicholas and Beatrice help us spiritually and emotionally through meetings and quality time. All of these people are here for us whenever we need them. I do not know what I would do without them!
