Taylor's Diary

Being in France for Easter was an interesting experience. It was very different to be away from my family on this day as we always celebrate it together. However, I was able to spend the day with my now dear friends and people from MLK Church. To start the day, my friends and I went to one of my favorite breakfast restaurants in Paris named Holy Belly 5. Afterwards, we stopped by a flower shop as well as a vintage clothing store. We did not buy anything, but it was nice to look around for fun. We came back home and rested for a little before heading to church at 3:00 pm. We attended church at MLK next door to our apartments. Our humanities tutor and friend, Jeff, translated the service for us because they spoke only in French. We recognized most of the French songs though, and we all took communion together. Later that day, we exchanged Easter gifts between all of us girls that are studying abroad. We gave each other chocolates and encouraging notes. I did not come across any tradition for Easter that I had not seen before. Many I knew were just having large meals with all of their family. One unique thing is they will close most shops the next day on Easter Monday for a bank holiday. Other than that, there are not a lot of traditions in France that are different from America. We did not see any restaurants advertising traditional Easter meals as many do not actually celebrate here in Paris.
