Studying humanities while I reside here in France will be very dire to what I learn about French culture. It would be a great shame to live somewhere for three months and not understand any history of its people or places. The Lord has sent me here to show me the city of Paris and country of France which will take initiative on my part to do so. Learning the history of France will enable me to better understand those who inhabit this place as well as the customs of the people. I believe a history of a country can deeply affect who a person is and their way of life. Although my future career is mostly focused on Environmental Studies, I am additionally interested in law and policy. This enables my motivation to learn the political history of France as well as how the social aspect of France affected the politics. Even if I do law in the United States, it is helpful to know how other countries practice law and policy. I hope to learn a lot about the revolutions that shaped France's government and political atmosphere. I have many questions about their leadership throughout the centuries as well as how they formed the government they have today. Before I took humanities, I honestly saw them as a nuisance and unnecessary. After one course in Romantic and Modern Art, I went from being frustrated trying to memorize all the artists and history, but, after, I was excited to use my vast knowledge in styles and names. I have even found some artists in France that I recognize from class which was very exciting. I am very excited to learn more about French humanities!
