My DIY Excursion adventure took place at a beautifully renovated park hidden in the city of Paris. Our tutor, Emmanuelle, spontaneously took us on a sunny day after class. The park is named Coulée verte René-Dumont after the French agronomist, Rene Dumont, who was the first presidential candidate to be an ecologist. It was built in 1988. This park is completely linear which one would find strange unless its history was known. The old railway line which connected Bastille and Vincennes was decommissioned when the RER A train was built as these stops were incorporated into the new train. It is located in the 12th arrondissement in Paris. We did not walk the entire thing as it is 4.7 kilometers long. The entire park is covered in different types of trees and smaller plants. At one point, it goes underneath a tunnel that is filled with artwork. Emmanuelle brought her golden Labrador, Ouver, as well, and I was surprised to see many people walking their dogs. Another thing I noticed is how many people were using the park to run. This made sense to me as the park is long and straight, so it is nice to use for long-distance training without having to make many twists and turns. There are also many workout areas with machines to use for weight-lifting. In the picture below, I am use a machine that works out your legs and arms. My favorite part of the park was the beautiful, diverse flowers that were planted everywhere along with the artwork displayed along the walls of the park. Different areas of the park had different styles of artwork signed by the name of the artist. They were very abstract and colorful. We eventually sat down and ate our sandwiches we had purchased at a boulangerie nearby. The sun shined down on us as we studied the eclectic architecture and discussed the parks unique history. This park is a hidden gem of Paris!
