My religious experiences in France were not exactly what I expected when starting study abroad. Our first few Sundays, we attended the church near our apartment called MLK Eglise. This was an interesting experience because all of their services are in French. This means during worship, unless I recognized the song, I did not ever fully understand what I was singing. However, the Holy Spirit is the same across the world, so it was easy to meditate and pray due to the atmosphere they create at MLK. Every sermon we listen to is translated to us in various ways. Some weeks the translators sit directly next to us while other weeks we use headphones and connect through apps. Overall, it is a fun experience. I have to admit that sometimes it feels harder to connect spiritually when I do not always understand what is being said. We also have attended many services at Hillsong Paris. Those were very enjoyable because I love Hillsong's worship. Also, there service is in English which can help. My favorite moments have been having quiet time in the mornings with the Lord downstairs in our community basement. Us girls decided to each pick a day to host everyone downstairs with tea, worship music, and a space free for connection with God. I feel like this experience has deepened my faith because it made me rely more on my individual relationship with God. Now, I see the huge importance of having individual quiet time with the Lord and how it can affect my mood for a whole day. This trip has also made me appreciate the church family community I have back home.
