After visiting Normandy, I feel very proud to be an American. Going into the visit, I knew about World War II, but it is very different to see where this astronomical war took place with my own eyes. My heart was very moved after hearing the endless stories of the brave men that sacrificed their lives at Omaha and Utah beach as well as other territories. Specifically at the American Cemetery, seeing the amount of men who had lost their lives for my country moved me to tears. I know their deaths were not easy, and their fight was more difficult than what books or movies can describe. However, seeing how the Allies worked together at the museum in Caen reminded me of the bond the United States shares with France, Great Britain, Canada, and many others. We might have our great differences whether it be language, culture, and more, but we can come together to fight for what we know is right. If there is one thing that unites us, it is fighting for men to be free, our homes to be safe, and what is right. Many of those around me in Normandy mentioned their gratefulness for our country as well as their own. I could tell by the faces of those around me at the sites and museums that we were all proud to be citizens of amazing countries. This trip made me miss home, and it made me desire for all of America to unite as one again. There has been so much divide politically and socially in our country lately, and I wish everyone could witness what I saw. I am proud to be an American.
