Road Trip Through Europe

Not only is there heightened security at the airport due to the recent terror attacks, but it also happens to be a holiday weekend (Easter). Knowing this we decide to get to the airport at 7:00 am to catch our 9:00 am flight. We will need every minute of that time. We walked a solid mile with our heavy backpacks to the train that will take us to the airport. Game time.

Reading about airline travel is not interesting so I will just say this, it took us 22 hours to get home. Between customs, security, 5 hour layovers and multiple baggage claims we had stood in so many lines and been herded through so many checkpoints we felt more livestock than human. By the time we landed I think I had begun to hallucinate. Exhaustion was winning.

All of this just made walking in the door to our home that much sweeter. After greeting a very excited Gadget I walk around the house a bit in a daze, not sure what to do. Do I unpack? Do I fall into a sobbing heap? Immediate slumber? Shower? It is hard to come to terms with the idea of being in your own home when you have been in gone for so long. It felt so good to fall into bed. Our bed. We were home. It was an amazing fantastic journey and it's over.
