I have left my homeland of Tangier, Morocco, with the objective of making my pilgrimage to the Holy House in Mecca, and to see the tomb of the Prophet in Medina. I set out on my journey on my own, with no fellow travelers nor a party I could join. The overwhelming impulse to see the glorious cities and artifacts of my people were my motivation.
I began my ride through the rocky mountainous regions and reached the trade city of Tlecmen. I then set out on a pilgrimage trail, I could travel through the valleys for extensive periods of time without encountering any towns. Along my journey I found a caravan, whose members were highly enthusiastic about the Hajj. While, traveling with them around the world of Islam, I learned much about religion and law and met many other scholars. We came to rest at the port of Algiers, despite my urges to keep on pushing ahead.
