Next up on our timeline of the life of the Roman citizen is the Temple of Jupiter. The Temple of Jupiter is a site that would concern all levels of Roman citizen from the Nobleman to the common man and everywhere in between. This was the holiest site in the whole of the Roman empire and the earthly home of the god that the Romans hailed as the king of all gods. Zeus was the all mighty and so every Roman from noble to common feared and revered him. This made the Temple of Jupiter a crucial site in the life of a Roman not just for worship but for gathering and communing with other Romans. Religion was a very important aspect of ancient Rome. It was not only used to explain away the occurences of their time but also as way to bring the people together. People would socialize in the many temples scattered around Rome as well as worship. This doesn’t mean that the Romans didn’t take their gods and religion seriously however. The romans made sacrifices and were careful in everything they did to honor the gods that pertained to the different aspects of their lives in order to avoid retribution. Everything that happened or didn’t happen in ancient rome they attributed to the gods and if the people had pleased them or not, It was a crucial part of every Romans life.
