As the republic transformed into an empire Caesar decided to expand the original forum. This move was probably more of a move to immortalize and glorify himself but it also served a functional purpose as a the empire was growing rapidly. Caesar expanded the forum outwards adding a huge temple of Venus because of the lineage he claimed to have with the Roman god of love. This would set a precedent for the rest of the area around the forum as future emperors would create add ons to the forum bearing their own names and adding their own personal touches like the temple of Venus. This area also housed areas to worship the man himself, Caesar. Caesar slowly turned the public perception of him into that of a god and in his forum would build a place to worship himself. Caesar would also make the senate meet him here on his forum before meetings, which they weren’t too fond of, and we all know how that ended.
