The Romans were pioneers in infrastructure construction projects. Roads were an integral part of the Roman empire and a driving force in the success of their expansion. Roads were not just a feat of engineering genius by the romans but a valuable part of the lives of the citizens of the eternal city. The Via Sacra, or the Sacred Way, was a road that really played into the lives of the average roman citizen. This road led to the heart of the Roman Forum and along its ways passed many important worship sites such as the temple of Saturn. Along this road would also walk the great generals and emperors of antiquity when they received a “triumph” for achieving victory in a great battle. This parade would be a great occasion in a Romans life and the festivities would be once in a lifetime. A parade along this road would also mean the creation of a new arch. Apart from this all the Roads that began at the top of the Roman forum would branch out into the vast expanse of the roman empire and connect the cities people with the customs and goods of the empires subjects.
