Since my last chapter touched on what life was like for the wealthy in ancient rome I figured it would be beneficial to talk a little bit about what it was like for the common people. The Largo Argentina seems like the perfect place to start this talk. The Largo Argentina is one of the oldest known sites in Rome and also happens to be an international cat sanctuary. In Ancient Rome this was one of the most important sites in a common person’s life. The Largo Argentina was a stall, or in other words a place where Roman citizens could vote. This means it held a great significance for the Republican era of Rome as it represented the power of the people. This was the beginning of a system that would be adopted all across the world and used to great success in the west. This was the most important single act a common person could do and so was a vital moment in each plebes life. The Largo Argentina also represented the area where the army stayed which was significant in that standing armies were not allowed inside the city of Rome at that time and so this testosterone filled air of blood and glory was a consistent part of the life of a common person and I believe this may be part of what made killing such a popular part of Roman pastime and entertainment.
